Being A Smiling Boss

Author: Sandra Valente

I was recently promoted in my job to a "supervisor" position .. the money wasn't really there but I figured that title will really look good on my resume! Is the title worth the extra work? The title gives you responsibilties and dealing with circumstances that you have no control over improving! I have a great team of staff.

I am glad that I can come in to work every day and put a smile on their face. I think that is important. I am always smiling and try and stay positive in my position. It takes a lot to upset me and make me want to make another career move !!! I am a pretty easy going person.. in my first couple of days on the job my words to my staff were "You report to me but I am not here to baby sit you; as long as you come in and do your job I will not bother you." Let me tell you .. it worked well and I have no complaints.

Some situations have come up that have made me have some concerns. Have you ever been asked not to smile? Well I have! Yes it's true ... my boss told me that she doesn't know how to read me because I smile a lot.. so I am starting to wonder if she wants me to be the boss from hell that no one likes?! There are too many already like that in the company.

I continue to be who I am and do what I do! My staff is pleased with the way I treat them ... so for that one person I will no longer smile.. and maybe one day they will know how to read me!
