Affordable Insurance

Author: Kevin Stith

Getting the right Insurance coverage can ensure financial security for you and your family if anything happens to you. Insurance is an important part of a sound financial strategy, because it covers you against potentially crippling costs if, say, you are in an accident or need medical care. While it is up to you to buy most types of Insurance coverage, some types are mandatory, such as Car Insurance.

Its easy to understand the logic of why one should get Insurance, but affording it is another matter. This is why it makes sense to understand what your options are, both as an individual and as a member of a particular group, such as an employees association. In general, a strong credit history may translate into savings in Insurance premiums. For Car Insurance, you can reduce your premium by maintaining a clean driving record. If you want to insure your home, having a burglar alarm and other home security features installed can also save you money. You may fall into one of several categories that make you eligible for government-sponsored Insurance and other benefits. If you are disabled, you may qualify for Social Security disability benefits. Federal employees and members of the US military are eligible for certain Group Insurance programs, and may also receive substantial discounts from many private Insurance providers.

Your employer may provide Health Insurance coverage, and additional work-related Insurance if your job entails certain risks. Take the time to understand what this coverage does and doesnt cover- you may need supplemental coverage to protect yourself fully. Your local labor union or employees association may support Group Health Insurance, which is cheaper than Individual Health Insurance. If you are unemployed, cannot afford to buy Insurance, or do not have employer-provided Insurance, you may be eligible for certain government-provided free or highly discounted services.
