Author: Hugh McMarlin

As with any relatively new industry VoIP companies are coming and going and there are a handful of them that are emerging as the industry leaders. 8X8 Inc. offers their Packet8 VoIP services in both the business and consumer marketplaces and is one of the leading VoIP companies in this very competitive VoIP arena.

8X8 Inc. was founded in 1987 as Integrated Information Technology (ITT) and took their company public as 8x8 Inc. in 1997 on the NASDAQ, and trades under the ticker EGHT. Initially they offered products such as programmable semiconductors for videoconferencing to the videophone markets. They were quite successful with these products, but in 2003 they started to evolve into a true VoIP company offering their Packet8 VoIP products to various business and consumer VoIP customers.

8X8 Inc. has very steady leadership who understand both the technical and corporate aspects of bringing new products forward in the evolving VoIP marketplace. Their CEO and Chairman of the board is Bryan R. Martin. Mr. Martin has served the company in a variety of corporate and engineering positions. He has served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), President, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Technical Officer (CTO), and Senior Vice President of Engineering Operations. Mr. Martin also holds 31 US patents in the fields of semiconductors, computer architecture, video processing algorithms, and videophones and communications.

At $19.95 a month and full of features Packet8 offers one of the lowest residential VoIP services in the market today. Through their Packet8 innovations, 8x8 Inc. has enabled broadband internet users to add high quality digital voice and video communications to their high-speed Internet connections. They shipped their first VoIP product in 1998, offered their newPacket8 services in 2002, launched their Packet8 Virtual Office in 2004, in that same year their DV326 videophone and in 2005 and 2006 they have partnered with CompUSA to help get their products and services out to waiting VoIP consumers. 8X8 Inc. continues to evolve with their Packet8 services and promises more improvements and innovations in the years to come.
