Workouts For Golf Training Routines

Author: Mike Pedersen

Workouts for golf is a training approach that most golfers should take seriously. Strengthening your golf swing muscles will give you the best chance at maximizing your power and driving distance

Workouts for golf are no longer a future approach. They are now! Every golfer looking to take their game to the next level is working on their body to achieve it.

Golfers have always pounded balls and taken lessons, but with this approach alone, has your game gotten better? If you don't address your physical limitations your same swing faults will be there round after round.

There is a misception about working out for golf. That you will lose feel around the greens and also flexibility. This is not true. In fact, the opposite occurs. When you are stronger, you have better control of your short game and if you are doing the correct golf workouts with weights, your flexibility (range of motion) will also improve.

Workouts for golf should incororate free weights (dumbbells), exercise tubing, stability ball and medicine balls. All this equipment is inexpensive and portable. Doing it in the convenience of your home is a huge plus.

The weights I am referring to are mostly dumbbells (handweights) and weighted golf medicine balls.

The benefit of using the above choices is the ability to mimic the golf swing and all its phases with resistance. This is termed "golf specific training".

Exercise Tubing With Handles.

Exercise tubing allows you to break the golf swing into bite-size chunks, or just want to work your body similar to your golf swing, this is the way to go. This is an important piece of equipment in your golf workout routine.

I use this tubing in all my golf fitness dvds and golf training membership site - My Golf Trainer. I use it because it is very affordable, transportable and effectively works your golf swing muscles.

Fitness Ball To Improve Core Stability

The kind of exercise ball for golf I am talking about is the big beach ball. I call it the golf exercise ball, but many call it a stability ball, swiss ball or even fitness ball.

Either way, they are also inexpensive, portable and effective at strengthening all your stabilizing muscles of your core for a more controlled golf swing.

Next time you see one, get on it and see what I mean. It looks a lot easier than it looks. The minute you site on it you will realize it is difficult to stay on it. It is much different than sitting on a stationary chair.

Medicine Balls For More Power

Weighted medicine balls are the in thing right now. I just saw a on the television a Practice Like A Tour Player that shows Vijay going crazy with his trainer and a golf medicine ball. It was fun to watch, and hopefully encourages more golfers to use this effective golf fitness tool.

You can do golf swing throws to improve your power and release. You can do a ton of core rotational movements that will increase clubhead speed and distance.

If after reading this article, you are still not motivated to embark on a workout for golf training routine, then you can most likely expect the same results in your game that you have been getting all along.
