The Sun is Not Shining So Bright on US Automakers These Days

Author: Lance Winslow

All in all the US Automakers had statistically a pretty good year having sold some 16.9 million automobiles. Certainly not breaking any speed records but the numbers show a "Steady as She Goes" ? approach into the harbor as the jobs continue to flow the other way to offshore lands. Still many analysts and intelligent folks looking at the Auto Industry say that the Sun is not shining so brightly on the US Automakers and Auto Industry these days.

The Sun is not shining as bright, because we are pissing away the light. We are throwing away reality for a liberal version of political correctness and therefore we have priced ourselves out of the world markets even though we are best in the world at nearly every thing we do.

It is hard for one to disagree with the fact that; Sun is not shining so brightly on the US Automakers and Auto Industry these days. Many of these analysts say things are going to get worse and I for one fear it will continue to do so in the manufacturing sector for years to come. This is not to say that I am happy to learn of 60,000 high paying autoworkers being laid off, I am not. I am deeply troubled and saddened by this, as these are real Americans, as they are part of us. That is to say these laid off workers are part of my ancestry too. Yet, we must also realize that if we are to sale our wares all over the world we will need to spread around the work as well. If Boeing wants to beat out Airbus for sales of aircraft in so many countries it needs to consider components being made of such aircraft to be made in other nations.

On the side of free markets and free enterprise we need to understand that we cannot sell our products all over the world if they cannot sell their wares here. I think I am concerned that to send "pressure washer equipment" ? to a franchisee in Mexico, there is a 50% import tax, yet they do not have the same rules for products coming in. My company is www.CarWashGuys.com . I think it is unfortunate that China can take an aerospace worker out back and put a bullet in their skull if they mess up on a piece of material, as in the US that is obviously not going to fly with OSHA. If we are to have a level playing field then it ought to be level all the way around. But we cannot expect nation states, which live in reality to support some of the same BS regulations we have here. Next time you wonder what happened to the US Auto Industry you might consider these issues. Think on this in 2006.
